Dates to Remember:

July 4, 5, 6, and 7, Twin Lakes Park in Greensburg/ 11-8pm The 45th Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival will include a Greensburg Art Center Booth.   To locate GAC’s booth, check the Welcome/Information Booth for a Map of the Park.  Members will be there displaying their art and promoting GAC Information about Membership, Classes, Exhibitions, etc.  Looking forward to your visit.

July 8 – General membership meeting, 7:00
August 4 –    Sculpture Garden Party.    1-4:00 PM

August 25 –   YOUNG ARTISTS ART SHOW – GREENSBURG ART CENTER  All young artists ages 3-17 are invited to submit 1 piece of art work to the YOUNG ARTISTS ART SHOW to be held at the center Sunday, August 25, 2-4:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to the show. Participating children must have taken a class at GAC during the past year. Art work may be framed, matted or loose. Be sure to include name, age and title of art work. Art work will be delivered Thursday 8/22, Friday 8/23 or Saturday 8/24, 10 AM – 4 PM each day.


“Picture This at the Library”
is a joint venture between the Greensburg Art Center and the Greensburg-Hempfield Library.  An Upcoming Exhibition is Sarah Thomas from June 14-July 31.  Her Opening Reception will be July 12, 6-8pm.  An upcoming exhibition will be with the art of Kathleen Clark–August 13 through September 26.  If you are interested in becoming an exhibitor for the 2020 season, please contact Rosemary Sovyak at 412-558-0810.

EDUCATION:
The summer classes are well underway.

  • The children’s Wednesday classes are full, and the Summer Art Camp has very little room left.
  • Still space in “Sculpture with Mr. Justin” which meets Saturdays 11-1:30, beginning July 6.
  •  Also still space for preschoolers in “Creative Arts for 3-6 Year Olds” which meets Thursdays beginning July 11.

Adult classes have begun.

  • “Paint Your Pet” a one-day workshop with June Robertson is scheduled for Tuesday, July 16, 10 AM–4:30 PM.
  • Rose Sovyak will offer her “Mosaic Art” Monday, August 19, 6-9:00 PM. Children and adults are welcome!

ALERT: Fall class proposals are due July 31.

  • Pam Cooper continues to offer Paint & Sip and birthday parties. Call 724-216-7512 to make arrangements.
  • *Wednesday Night Painters continue an open studio Wednesdays, 7-10
  • *Jerry Scorpion invites painters to join him Saturdays, 1-4.

INSTAGRAM.  Instagram is a free photo and video-sharing social networking app that has a different demographic than Facebook.  You can upload photos from your mobile phone.  To view GAC on Instagram, go to Instagram.com, download the free app, and type in greensburgartcenterrowegallery (all one word) in the “Search” box at the top of the page.  For our members who want to share their work and be shown as a member of GAC, please send photos and comments in an email to jkmoreno@msn.com.   Those teaching classes or organizing other activities at GAC can do the same.  Questions? Classroom CREATIONSCONTEST.   “A Christmas Carol”  theme Featured during “The ART of GIFTing” Exhibition Nov–Dec  2019 Plan 1-4 items to be ready by Oct. 21, 2019 for this exhibition. Check the GAC website www.greensburgartcenter.org for more details.

GAC IS IN FULL SWING FOR PHASE II TO HONOR SPECIAL PEOPLE IN OUR LIVES AND … BEAUTIFY GAC GROUNDS. PHASE II WILL INVOLVE THE AREA ALONG RT 30 AND BETWEEN THE PARKING AREA AND THE LAWN TRIANGLE. Trees and shrubs will be as indicated for PHASE I with plaques the same as before. You are invited to have a living testament of your love for very special people in your lives.  Trees (and selected shrubs) will include ground markers” In Honor of” or “In Memorium of” for the person(s) you select. Gifts of this type will range from $75 to $275 (depending on the selected plant and marker). Prices include stainless steel plaques and planting. More details will be posted on our website with specific plantings and marker criteria. Payments can be made by check, credit card, or PayPal.  PRICES INCLUDE PLANTING AND PLAQUES.
 
DARKROOM Rental – Available are several enlargers and the necessary trays, sink, safe light, timers, etc.  Chemicals and developing paper are NOT included in the rental cost.     Bring your negatives or film and have fun developing!   Cost:  $5/3 hours   $25/Week   INTERESTED? CALL FOR ENTRIES: 

  • People, Places and Plants…OH MY!  An open exhibit (unjuried) at the Greensburg Art Center in September 7 -October 18. Watch for more information on the GAC website and the August newsletter. Prospectus available after July 10 on the GAC Website
  • SPCARTS announces the 24th Annual Regional Juried Exhibition. Show dates: November 15, 2019 – February 2, 2010.  Entry Deadline: Aug 31, 2019. Opening reception:  November 16 at SAMA Ligonier, 6-8pm. More information, prospectus and online entry form at www.spcarts.org.
  • The Westmoreland Museum of American Art: Call for Pop-Up Exhibition Proposals. The Westmoreland is accepting proposals for Pop-Up Exhibitions, which are held in the Robertshaw Gallery (adjacent to the lobby on the 1st floor). Artists working in all media will be considered. Site-specific installations are welcome. Guidelines for submitting proposals are available at: www.thewestmoreland.org/about/opportunities/
  • 2019 Women in Art is a juried exhibition showcasing women artists in all media. Artists may submit one, two or three pieces. Submissions must be digital, jpg format.DEADLINE: Mon. 26 Aug. 2019 Entry Fee: $20Email to Gallery Director, Todd Kaiser  – tkeyser@setonhill.edu Submit images labeled with title, media & size and accompanying sheet listing artist, title, size and media. Images may be e-mailed to tkeyser@setonhill.edu. Entry fee must be received by August 26th, by check made payable to “Seton Hill University Art Gallery”. Include with check artist’s name, address and email. Entry tags and delivery information will be sent with notification.  Artists must deliver or ship accepted work. FREE FRAMES There are a lot of used, wood frames on the counter at the center. They were donated to us and are free to anyone who can use them. What is left in a week or so will go to Goodwill. Take as many as you can so we don’t have to move them!

GREENSBURG ART CENTER ARTIST MARKET.  New Artist Market items are now on display on the Classroom Gallery  Shelves and in the Gallery Display Cases. Our featured artists this month are Keith Herchenroether, Tom Milne, and Cheryl Robertson.  Come in to see and enjoy their original art, jewelry, and pottery which make perfect and unique gift items.  Stop in the Art Center Monday to Friday 10:00 to 4:00 and Saturday 1:00 to 4:00.

MONITORS: Monitors volunteer for 3-hour shifts.  They are trained by experienced monitors. A packet of info on duties and procedures are given to you.  A MONITOR REWARDS PROGRAM in place enables you to earn points based on the number of shifts you take. These points translate into discounts that can be applied to your tuition for classes and workshops–NOT to items  in the gift shop.   Points and percentages are compiled once every four months. Four shifts equal a 10% discount.   Monitor more often, and your discount increases. Go to greensburgartcenter.org and click on the “welcome” printed in white letters under the paint tubes. STANDING COMMITTEES IN NEED OF NEW VOLUNTEERS – If you have even a little bit of time and can help sporadically, we could use some new faces for these committees – Gallery (extra hands to install exhibits, do mailings, handle receiving and pickup, set up for openings, and refreshments), Facilities help.
Monitors–ATTENTION: THE BLUE GARBAGE CAN IN THE KITCHEN IS FOR RECYCLING ONLY. IT Should be put our every MONDAY for Tuesday pickup.
