HAPPENINGS AT THE GREENSBURG ART CENTER

EDUCATION

“Winter Weekend Workshops” will resume in January. If you would like to offer a 1 day sampler workshop during the winter months, submit a proposal to the Education committee by Friday, December 20. Teacher Response Forms are available at greensburgartcenter.org under the “welcome” tab.

The Spring schedule of classes will begin in March.

Change of schedule: “Have Fun Painting and Critiquing on Tuesdays” will now meet 1:30-4:30. This open studio will not meet November 26 or December 24. This change will be in effect until the end of the year. When a new class schedule comes out, new times will be posted.

Note: The open studio fee will increase to $5 in January. This fee covers the cost of building use, utilities and scheduling.

ATTENTION FIGURE DRAWING ARTISTS!  COOL WEATHER DRAWING FUN!! – Now that summer art adventures are past memories, fall is the perfect time to create new ways to stimulate those creative artistic neurons!  A small but mighty group of artists rise to the occasion on the third Thursday of each month from 10 to 1:00 as they capture the gesture of a fellow human being!  Sound intimidating? Never fear!  A supportive group will share tips, strategies, and experiences to help get you on the journey.  Incorporate whatever medium you choose or come just to observe before jumping in to paint or sketch. Just a reminder that our charge of just $10.00 includes both live model and building use fee.  Not ready to sketch but would like to sit for the group or maybe know someone who would be a good candidate for the figure drawing experience   Let Nancy Dalverny at 412-523-6686 or Carolyn Taylor know at 724-219-9330.

OPEN STUDIOS and Ongoing Classes Open studios do not require formal registration and can be attended once, or however many times you want.  Contact the Center to obtain information from the Open Studio artist such as cost, schedule, etc. Reference the title (below) in bold and the artist if applicable.

A MESSAGE FROM THE GAC PRESIDENT, Rose Sovyak

I would like to extend best wishes for a Happy Holiday Season to the members of GAC.  It has been another exciting year as we look back on the year of events at the art center.

A tremendous sense of gratitude from me goes out to our officers of the organization for their efforts and support of the mission of the Greensburg Art Center. This sense of gratitude extends as well to the committee members of the Education, Gallery and Executive Committees for their dedication in accomplishing important tasks throughout the year.

The Education Committee again, provided an outstanding variety of classes and workshops for members and the public to experience and learn and thus generating a creative environment for all.

Marcy Koynok is to be commended for her efforts in organizing bus trips to Cleveland and National Gallery . These were well received by the community.

The exhibitions in the Rowe Gallery were extraordinary, offering the community a wide variety of art venues with several first-time exhibits. The repertoire included the Art Fusion of Six, the Westmoreland Photography Society, From Heart and Hand, and Printmaking. The Gallery Committee has been very instrumental in the success of the exhibitions. The Art of GIFTing exemplifies the skill and hard work of Debbie King and her committee. GAC members extend a heartfelt thank-you to Debbie, as she steps down from chairing the Artist Market. We offer support and best wishes to Mary Yeager and Tami Krusper as they assume the chairmanship of the Artist Market.

Pat Majcher and her committee created an incredible Art on the Vine “Pop Art “event. Congratulations! Appreciation is offered to Pat for her efforts in chairing Art on the Vine from its inception as she steps down from the position. The members of GAC offer Mary Yeager support and cooperation as the new chairperson.

“Picture This at the Library” was once again a huge success in our community outreach efforts at the Greensburg-Hempfield Library. Seven featured artists or groups of artists received recognition from the patrons and staff at the library.

I wish to recognize the efforts of the monitors and volunteers that contribute to keeping GAC a vital part of the art community in the Greensburg area. Special thanks is extended to Loretta Wolfe as coordinator of the Monitor Schedule.

Gratitude is extended to Joe Schildkamp and John Bixler for their efforts in maintaining and correcting problems as they arose in the building.

You as members of GAC create an environment that makes my position as president much easier to fulfill. Thank you for the support!
